Occupational Disease, Cancer & Early Detection

adminHealth

The TPFFA L3888 has revised its Medical Surveillance Guide. As we know, firefighters carry a higher risk of cancer and heart disease, and Ontario’s presumptive laws recognize that your job is the cause. Retired or not, early detection saves lives, so don’t wait for symptoms. Tell your doctor exactly what you did for a living and what you were exposed to — many don’t understand firefighter risk unless you spell it out. Bring the Medical Surveillance Guide with you, ask for earlier and more frequent screening. General population guidelines don’t fit our line of work. Make screening a yearly habit, track changes, and speak up if something feels off. This isn’t “optional” health care — it’s part of taking care of yourself after a career of taking care of everyone else.
