DC Richard “Dick” Bailey – July 1933 – June 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Bailey on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020. Dick joined the Toronto Fire Department on the 2nd of December 1955 and made Captain on the 11th of October 1972. He rose to the rank of District Chief on the 12th of December 1983 and retired on the 20th of March 1994 after a 39-year career. Dick was Brother in Law to our Late Platoon Chief Lorne Buckingham Sr, the uncle of retired Division Commander Lorne Buckingham, Captain Steve Buckingham (331 D) and was the cousin of retired Assistant Deputy Chief (TFD) Michael Bailey.

He served his country as a Paratrooper in the Royal Canadian Regiment in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and was a proud member of the Toronto Fire Fighters’ War Veterans Association.

A private graveside service was held Monday, June 8th and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A Funeral Mass was held for Richard at St Therese Parish – Courtice, Ontario on Thursday June 4th at 3pm, it can be viewed by following this link: https://youtu.be/J_HIqvEr6ak
