In Memoriam: Passing of Retired Platoon Chief Tim Algar
April 18, 1958 – August 30, 2026
Local 3888 Members,
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of retired Platoon Chief Tim Algar.
Tim was hired by the Toronto Fire Department on June 27, 1983, and proudly served the citizens of Toronto and his fellow members for 41 years before retiring on October 31, 2024.
Tim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Outside of his career, his greatest joy was spending time with his sons, Ryan and Andy, and his grandchildren. He loved cheering them on at their sports and activities and celebrating their many milestones.
Tim also shared a love of travel with his wife, Sharon, and their friends. Whether at home with family or away exploring new places, he treasured the time spent with the people he cared about most.
Those who knew Tim will remember him as someone who always put others first. He was generous and caring, always looking out for those around him and putting their needs ahead of his own.
Tim’s dedication to his family, his friends, and his brothers and sisters in the service will not be forgotten. His presence, friendship, and leadership will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Reception
Following the service in the Bayview Glen Church Lobby.
Dress
TFS personnel attending the funeral are to wear full dress uniform (white shirt, tie, gloves and cap).
Cap badges will be shrouded.
Please plan on arriving early as there is plenty of construction at the church and ongoing road work at Bayview Ave and Steeles Ave.
Form Up and Final Rolling Salute
We will be forming up and honoring Tim with a rolling salute. Members will be asked to form up and come to attention when the command is given.
The rolling salute begins at the colours (Canadian Flag salute comes up) and is completed at the rear step of the caisson, (salute comes down), then we bow our heads as the family passes. Continue to stand until you’re dismissed.
Rest in peace Brother Algar. Your service is complete, but you will never be forgotten.
