Passing ofd Retired Firefighter Gordon Johnston

January 25, 1939 – June 18, 2026 

Local 3888 Members,

 

It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Johnston, age 87, of Herring Neck, NL, announce his passing at his residence on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Anne; his wife, Ruby; and his siblings, Bertha, Betty, Helena, Bill, Francis, and Jack.

Gord was a dedicated Toronto firefighter. His career began on April 10, 1964, and he retired on April 17, 1989, after 25 years of service. He spent most of his career at Station 34 (131).

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Marion Cortina; his special niece, Sheila Melough; his special friends and caregivers, Tony (Morene) and Jim; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In keeping with Gordon’s wishes, cremation will take place. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Anglican Cemetery in Cobb’s Arm, NL.
