Passing of

Retired Assistant Deputy Chief

Michael Bailey ~ January 18, 1938 ~ June 20, 2026

Local 3888 Members,

We are saddened to announce the passing of Michael Bailey, in his 88th year.

Michael devoted much of his life to his family, his community, and the fire service. He was hired on June 7, 1963, promoted to Captain on August 6, 1982, advanced to District Chief on June 6, 1988, and later served as Assistant Deputy Chief of Toronto before retiring on June 30, 1997. His career reflected decades of leadership, commitment, and service to others.

Michael was part of a proud generation of firefighters who helped build the foundation of the fire service we know today. He understood the value of duty, loyalty, hard work, and solidarity. He served alongside his fellow firefighters with pride and carried the responsibility of leadership with strength and dignity.

Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 69 years, Joan, and their three daughters: Terry and son-in-law Frank Sita; Catherine and son-in-law Ken Hutt; and Lori and son-in-law Peter Mitchell. He was the beloved son of Allison and Michael, and brother to Barbara and brother-in-law Anthony Grimaldi.

He will be deeply missed by his seven grandchildren: Mathew, Sawyer, Molly, Frankie, Nadia, Nicole, and Laurie; as well as his eleven great-grandchildren: Emma, Kaden, Ashten, Grayson, Stevie, Carmen, Lennon, Harrison, Adeleigh, Amelia, and Gia.

To his family, Michael was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. To the fire service, he was a leader, a mentor, and a brother firefighter. His loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him, worked with him, and loved him.

Our hearts may never fully heal, but the memories shared with Michael will remain forever. Our Chief may be gone in body, his life, his service, and his legacy deserve to be celebrated.

The family would be honoured for those who knew and loved Michael to join them in remembering a life well lived and a career proudly served.
