Captain Paul Wayne Fitzgerald – 11 Dec 1942 – 13 Apr 2026

It is with great sadness and with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Wayne Fitzgerald Sr., a dedicated and colorful supporter in many spaces spanning many decades in Canadian History. Paul Wayne Fitzgerald Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Burlington, Ontario, on April 13, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was 83. He was a devoted husband, proud father of three, and respected Canadian veteran and firefighter, leaving behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and service. During the early to mid-1960’s, he served as a leading coach and recreational authority with The Canadian Air Force and was stationed at various notable bases across Canada. He met his wife-to-be, Louise (nee Babin), in Goose Bay, Labrador, and they married in April 1965.

Paul answered the call to serve his community when he joined the Toronto Fire Department in 1966. Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, he rose through the ranks with integrity and determination. He served with honor as both a Firefighter and Captain, including his time at 1 Station Adelaide (Station 332) and later as Captain at 3 Station (Station 314), where he remained until his retirement in 1998.

Paul was a proud and loving father to Rob (Cheri) Fitzgerald, Acting Captain at TFS Station 314; and Candace Fitzgerald, Fire Prevention at TFS Station 321, and Dr. Paul Fitzgerald (PhD) of Salt & Pepper Media Inc, Publicist, Author, Filmmaker, Academic, and Journalist. Paul was a long-serving member of the Toronto Firefighters War Veterans Association.
