DC Wilfrid S. O’Hearn – December 1924 – March 2026
It is with deep sadness that we share that our beloved father passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. He leaves behind his children, Marcia, Brian (Debbie), Maureen, and Mona (Terry), grandchildren Aidan Peleato (Nic), Erin O’Boyle (Jon), Cara, and Noah O’Hearn, great-grandson Quinn Peleato, his sisters in California, Patricia Wright and Kathe Horwege (Ken), sisters-in-law Jean O’Hearn and Denise O’Hearn, and brother-in-law Ken MacRae. Wilf was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Frances (Koscielski); his parents, Wilfrid O’Hearn Sr. and Clara Light (Lalumiere); his brothers, Terry and D’Arcy; his sister, Linda MacRae; and his brother-in-law, Carleton Wright. Born December 31, 1924, Wilf will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him as a kind-hearted, compassionate gentleman, with a love of Jameson Irish Whiskey. Wilf enlisted in the RCAF in 1942 during WWII and served across Canada as an Equipment Technician in Aircraft Parts. In 1946, he was sent to Germany on occupational duties. When he returned to his job as a Bellman at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, he fell in love with Fran, who worked in the accounting office. They married in 1951. Wilf and Fran loved to travel by car, bus, or plane. Their trips took them all over the world and to casinos near and far.

Wilf was a proud and highly respected member of the Toronto Fire Department from 1950 to 1988, when he retired as a District Chief. He loved the camaraderie of the Toronto Firefighters War Veterans Association, where he was a member for 75 years, and of Branch 426 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Newmarket. The family would like to express deep thanks to the staff at Southlake Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the York Region Foodbank or the Poppy Fund of the Newmarket Legion.
