Funeral Information for A/DC Norman George Cook, Retired East York (L-418)
Norman Cook – 1938 ~ 2026
Norman George Cook passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 26, 2026, at the age of 88. Norman will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his loving wife Joan of 70 years. Loving father to Kathryn, Randall, and Russell. Loving father-in-law to Christina and Donna. Beloved grandpa to Jesse (Caitlin), Jenna (Justin), Brandon (Dana), Alexis (T.J.), and great-pa to Everly, Lily, Austin, and Charlotte. Norman’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He cherished every moment he had with his loved ones, creating lasting memories and sharing in their laughter and love. Norman was a devoted family man who rarely missed a play, school event, or activity involving those he loved. Whether sitting proudly in the audience or cheering from the sidelines, his presence was a constant source of encouragement and support. Norman had a lifelong love of the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. Wherever there was water to cast a line, Norman (grandpa) could always be found fishing. He treasured every moment in nature and took great joy in passing these skills along to the children in his life. He looked forward to the long drives to Disney World with his wife and family, treasuring the laughter, stories, and memories made along the way as much as the destination itself.

Norman proudly served the Borough of East York as a firefighter for 25 years, dedicating his career to protecting and supporting his community. Through hard work, courage, and steadfast leadership, he rose through the ranks to become an Acting District Chief. His commitment to public service and the safety of others left a lasting mark on both the fire service and the community he was honored to serve.
Norman may have seemed tough on the outside, but he had one of the biggest hearts anyone could know. Gifted with remarkable skill and determination, there was seemingly nothing he could not fix or accomplish. He took immense pride in his landscaping business, holding himself and his work to the highest standards and paying careful attention to every detail. Through his company, he not only created beautiful spaces but also provided opportunities for others, teaching strong values, discipline, and life lessons that left a lasting impact on all who worked alongside him. Norman was greatly involved in supporting children through minor league hockey. A devoted coach, mentor, and sponsor, he believed sports built character and confidence. He took pride in guiding and encouraging young players, finding true happiness in watching them grow and succeed. Norman’s legacy will continue to live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great pa who brought immense love and joy to those around him.
In accordance with Norman’s wishes, a private gathering with his family will be held to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
