DC William J. Humphries – July 26, 1933 — October 20, 2025

Etobicoke Fire Crest

Bill Humphries, our father, was a true family man. He loved his wife, Shirley, wholeheartedly and demonstrated his affection for her frequently, sometimes to her embarrassment, but always to our delight. He lovingly referred to Mom as ‘my girl’, even in the last few days of his life. Dad’s love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. He especially enjoyed spending time with the little ones. Dad’s career in the fire department spanned 37 years. A volunteer since the age of 18, he officially joined at 20. In 1960, he was promoted to Captain, then in 1975 to District Chief. Dad loved his job, made many good friends through his work, and enjoyed the camaraderie with the men.

In his retirement, Dad enjoyed providing much service to their Church; no chore was too big or too small. At home, Dad had an artist’s hands in creating the most beautiful gardens with his many flowers, shrubs, and trees. Neighbors and visitors often remarked on his handiwork. We are so thankful for Dad’s unlimited love and support for our whole family.

Dad only ever had kind words to say about anyone. Patience and gentleness were second nature to him. Dad’s humor was legendary; he could always bring a smile to any situation. You will forever be in our hearts. We love you.
