Captain James Leonard Ward – Jul 1934 – Feb 2025
In Loving Memory of James (Jimmy) Leonard Ward. Beloved Father, Grandfather and Friend. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Leonard Ward on February 22, 2025.

Jim was born on July 12, 1934, in Toronto, Ontario, and lived a full and vibrant life, reaching his goal of celebrating his 90th birthday. With the same strength and determination, he exhibited throughout his life, Jim chose to pass on his own terms, peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. Jim dedicated more than 36 years to Toronto Fire Services before retiring as a district chief in 1991. His legacy will be remembered for his courage, selflessness and unwavering dedication. Like all true heroes, Jim never hesitated to put himself in harm’s way for the safety of others. His family is incredibly proud of his service and the profound impact he’s had on the lives of so many. Beyond his heroic work, Jim had a passion for golf, which he discovered at the age of 10 when he began working as a caddy at Humber Valley Golf Course. It wasn’t long before Jim excelled at the game and, by the age of 14, he had started teaching others. Jim played well into his 89th year, spreading his joy for the game both on and off the course throughout his life. Jim was a positive light – he had an incredible ability to connect with anyone around him and touched the lives of many through his warmth, kindness and humour.
With his last alarm, Jim’s memory and influence will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring, with the date to be announced. We invite all who knew Jim to join us as we honour his remarkable life. Thank you for your love, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Sincerest Condolences from all our Retiree Groups go out to the Family and Friends.
