Director George Robert Murray – 24 Mar 1929 – 17 Sep 2024
It is with Great Sadness we announce the passing of George Murray, retired Director of the Toronto Fire Departments Communications Division. George, pre-deceased by Elsie, his wife of 75yrs, He leaves behind 2 Daughters, Dale, and Karen. George had 5 grandchildren, Lisa, Tara (Dale Randy), Crystal, Kayla, Keith (Karen Brian) 11 great grandchildren, William, Michael, Cameron, Riley, Ethan, Mac, Kylie. Abigail, Isaac, Julianna, Logan.
George Wintered in Clearwater Florida for 15 years 1987 to 2002, was active in shuffleboard, golf and had a pilot’s license.

George began his career with the Toronto Fire Department on the 16th of July 1954. He was first assigned to the Operations Division or “Suppression” and served on two trucks. His service early in his career was memorable, being that he was on duty for the enormous response to Hurricane Hazel. Following this assignment, George was transferred to the Fire Alarm Telegraph Division (FAT). He was promoted to Captain on the 10th of Nov 1972, and finally to the Director, on the 7th of November 1983. He retired on the 17th of April 1989 after 35 years of Service. George was a regular attendee at the Retiree Breakfast’s and is already missed.
George’s legacy of dedication and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His unwavering spirit and kindness will be dearly missed but will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. George’s family will honour his life and legacy with a memorial service, the details of which will be announced at a later date.
