Funeral Information For Captain Edward “Ford” Sisson Retired Scarborough L626
Ford Sisson (#191) – May 12, 1935 ~ August 6, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Dad. He passed suddenly Tuesday, August 6th at the ripe age of 89 years/trips around the sun. He often said he had never been bored and had been retired 30 years from Scarborough Fire.
Ford started with the Scarborough Fire Department in September 1960 and retired in January 1990. Along with his EMS role he was often seen in a stripped jersey refereeing both hockey and Basketball. He served the basketball community in both the Toronto Board and later the Durham Board, 40 years in all. He said one time he thinks he officiated 10,000 games.
I remember him at the gym at our high school doing games. He would almost always throw our centre Stoney out of the game for his behaviour. I took some heat for that! When he refereed my hockey team exhibition games, he would always send me to the box. I always felt that he was doing it to show how impartial he was. Not my Dad, he called it as he saw it. Always talking to players and communicating with them. When he was in Florida which he loved he went to an NBA game with the Raptors he told me. He saw an old player from Oakwood Collegiate down on the floor. He went down and said hello. When he returned to his seat the woman sitting next to him had seen him speaking with the player. When he returned to his seat, she said how do you know him? Dad said I refereed him when he was at Oakwood Collegiate in Toronto. He was sitting beside Leo Rautins sister. That’s sports. My Dad passed on his love of sports and introduced me to many I still enjoy! He was such a good person. I miss him so much already.
To those that knew him think of him and a smile should cross your face!
Funeral Details will be posted as soon as they become available.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends from all our Fire Fighter Retiree Groups. Rest in peace, Ford.
