Information Notice: IAFF Canada PFAS Petition

Date: Monday, July 15, 2024
Subject: IAFF Canada PFAS Petition

To: All Members:

TO ALL OPFFA LOCALS:

The British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters Association has been working with NDP MP Peter Julian (New Westminster-Burnaby) on an online petition that would call on the federal government to ban Per – and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from turnout gear and fire suppression foam.

An online petition has been created for this purpose and was recently distributed via email by the IAFF Canadian office. Tracking shows that at this point, only 100 Ontario firefighters have signed the online petition. This is well behind firefighters in other provinces.

The OPFFA encourages our local leaders to support this important project by passing on the following link to their members after signing the petition themselves.

https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Sign/e-5052

The petition requires limited input and confirmation through a follow-up email.

Let’s continue the fight to protect one another and support this worthy cause.
