Funeral Information For Captain Thomas M. Galand Retired TFS – Former TFD (L-113)
Thomas Maurice Galand – 04 February 1954 – 08 December 2023
Born to Maurice and Dolores (nee Viney) in East York, Tom grew up with his sister Susan and a household of cousins who lived nearby. Tom married Nancy in 1983 and happily became a stepdad to Lana. They raised a growing family in the Newmarket and Uxbridge area. A proud and loving father to Brooke and Melissa, and grandpa to Yourke, Knox, Lukas, and Liam, he treasured the gift of time he was able to share with them after his cancer diagnosis.

Retired Captain at Toronto Fire Services after a 34-year career. He was respected and admired by his peers and maintained close contact with his many friends on the job. Tom started with the Toronto Fire Department on the 17th of April 1979 and retired from Toronto Fire Services on the 30th of April 2013. He had many assignments mostly on the A1 & A2 (A&C) shifts, finishing up as a Captain at Station 324 (12) on A-platoon (A1). Son of Maurice W. Galand TFD 03 Dec 1954.
Tom had a welcoming smile; he always remembered your name and was open and easy to talk to. Never a stranger, he always managed to find a shared interest or a friend in common. An extraordinary athlete, Tom excelled in hockey and golf. A longtime member at Mill Run GC, he took an active interest in the history of the golf course, chairing committees, and welcoming members. It was there he met Wendy, a true soulmate and partner, on and off the golf course. Lovingly remembered as a true gentleman and cherished friend, may he rest in peace.
Arrangements entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge. A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be planned in 2024. Friends are invited to share condolences at www.lowandlow.ca
