Douglas Whalen – 1946 ~ 2023
Final Alarm – Douglas Roland Whalen, SFD 359
With heavy hearts, we want to share the passing of Douglas Whalen SFD 359 on August 30th, 2023. Doug in his 77th year, with family at his side ended his battle with what we believe to be an occupational illness.
Beloved husband of 56 years to his loving wife Shirley, and father to Steven (Catherine), and Rhonda (Jason). Proud Papa of John (Natalie), Mitch, Cody, Tanner, Jayda, and Charles. Beloved brother of Gary (Brenda), Ken (Sue) both deceased, and sister Donna (John – deceased). He will be dearly missed by nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Doug, a proud member of the Scarborough Fire Department retired as a District Chief. He was credited with 37 years of service but had to leave active duty after 31 years due to serious health conditions.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry would be appreciated by the family.
A Celebration to honor his life will be held at the Port Perry Legion (Branch 419), 484 Bay Street, Port Perry, ON, on Friday, September 8th, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
