Retired Groups Recognised by TPFFA

Twenty-five years ago saw the amalgamation of the six municipalities merged into the City of Toronto we know today. This resulted in the six firefighter associations (East York, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Toronto, and York) merging into one – the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association. Each Association had its own group of retirees who looked after their retired members and passed along information pertinent to them and generally got together regularly to share camaraderie and rehash old stories.

As time passed it was realized that one day the former six would, through attrition, just fade away leaving a void for retirees. This is ringing true today as there are many Toronto Fire Fighters that do not have a ‘former group’. Fortunately, around 2017, the TPFFA started working to create the Retired Toronto Fire Fighters Association (RTFFA) and in October 2018, held their first meeting.

Today the six retired groups (East York, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Toronto, and York) and the RTFFA not only work well together but continue to work hard to see that our retirees have access to information that could be of importance to them.

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association, L3888 invited a representative from each of the six retired groups and the RTFFA to their annual Retirees Dinner, where they acknowledge the hard work and dedication done by these groups over the years.
