Captain Frank William Lenard Merritt – 1941 ~ 2022

It is great sadness that the family of Frank Merritt of Bobcaygeon, announce his passing at Peterborough Hospital on April 16th, 2022. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family, at the age of 80. Predeceased by his parents Fredrick and Lulu Merritt; brother William (Lisa), brother Arthur (Carol) sister Bonnie (Rick), sister Frances; brother in-law Roy. Leaving to mourn is his loving wife Phyllis of 61 years, who stood by his side and knew the true meaning of their marriage vows; daughter Laurie, daughter Tracey (Lloyd) and their daughters Kara and Karley; son Frank Jr (Kelly) and their daughters Jetta and Laya; son Scott (Tracy) and children Justice, Erika, Ethan and Meadow; Brother Ted (Vivian); sister in-law Patricia (Lloyd) As well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Frank was a fun-loving family man with a great sense of humor, he always had a great story to tell, was never short of words, and his smile would light up any room. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. For many of you, he was known as a Firefighter, but to us he was dad. Special thanks to the staff at Peterborough Hospital who assisted him in his final days.

Frank started his career with the Toronto Fire Department on the 20th of November 1964. He was promoted to Captain on the 9th of September 1991 to 31 Pump B2 (424 B). Frank retired on the 27th of January 1997 after 33 Years.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 25th at The Hendren Funeral Homes- Monk Chapel, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon, with visitation starting at 1 pm followed by the service at 2 pm. Reception to follow at the Bobcaygeon Seniors Centre – 100 Head Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sick Kids would be greatly appreciated by the family.
