John McGregor – December 2, 1943 ~ November 10, 2021

John passed away suddenly but peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Born on December 2, 1943, in Brampton, Ontario.

John Charles McGregor, of Owen Sound, was in his 78th year. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Susan McGregor (née Lasch) for 57 years. Loving father of Christine Wilson (Glenn) and Scott McGregor, both of Owen Sound. Proud grandfather of Jordan & Bronwyn Wilson and Jacob McGregor. Dear brother of Jane Morris. John will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Gladys McGregor, and his stepfather Archibald Campbell. John lived life to the fullest. He was always up for an adventure and never afraid to take a risk. As a teenager, he took up waterskiing and it wasn’t uncommon to have Susan on his shoulders out on the water. In his early 20’s John decided to get his pilot’s license and purchased his first airplane shortly after that. After they were married, he and Susan opened a hardware store in Toronto.

Etobicoke Fire Crest

He then joined the Etobicoke fire department in the 1970s where he worked for 17 years. John had a love for building and restoring street rods and it was because of this passion that John and Susan first visited Owen Sound to attend annual street rod car shows back in the ’70s and ’80s. They chose to relocate to Owen Sound in 1983 to start a Midas Muffler franchise where it is still in operation as McGregor Automotive. John’s love for building and fixing cars led to his decision to build an airplane in his garage over the span of seven years. He loved to fly and would jump at the opportunity to take his friends and family for a flight over our beautiful city. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his passion for life, goofy sense of humour, and colourful stories. John, we hope that your afterlife is as busy as this one was.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Friday, November 19th, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Roy Nicol-Macdonald officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. All attending the visitation and memorial service must wear a mask and show proof of double vaccination.
