DC Maurice DeWitt – 1930 – 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maurice (Moe) DeWitt in his 90th year on Monday, May 11th, 2020 at Southlake Regional Health Care Centre.

Moe was predeceased by wife Marlene (Lunn). He will be missed greatly by his children Marie and Michael. Adoring Grandfather to his pride and joy, Lucas Tschachler. Survived by sister-in-law Frances Lunn (late Charles), nephews Chuck (Theresa), Allan (Pat) and Niece Charlene (John) and their families. Also fondly remembered by cousins Scott Weaver (Ann) and Ginny Rippe (Jim) and their families in the US. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Ruth, and “brothers” William Lowrie and Ron Elward.

He was an “uncle”, cousin and friend to many, always there to lend a hand to anyone who asked. Moe joined the Toronto Fire Department on the 9th of March 1955 and quickly made Captain on the 17th of April 1981. He rose to the rank of District Chief on the 6th of November 1989 and retired on the 27th of January 1992 after a 36-year career. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Southlake Regional Health Care Centre or the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 World Pandemic, we are unable to give Moe the proper memorial he deserves and will plan a future Celebration of Life at a later date when all his family and friends can celebrate and grieve in his honour without socially distancing.

Our sincerest condolences from all our RTFFA members go out to the Family and Friends.
