Union Notice #19-119: Firefighter Injuries

Notice 19-119

Date: November 2, 2019
Subject: Firefighter Injuries
To: All Members

As the news has been reporting we have had two Firefighters taken to hospital. The fire broke out at an abandoned building in the area of Jarvis and Shuter streets early Saturday morning.

A Firefighter fell from the roof while ventilating the building. He is expected to make a full recovery.

A Captain, hearing the mayday, fell while trying to make his way to the mayday situation. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. He is in Serious Condition with several fractures but more concerning is the head trauma he sustained. TFS picked up his family and they are currently by his bedside. Everything is being done to support him, his family and the Firefighters who were on the scene. He is in the best place in Ontario for these types of injuries. Hospital staff are cautiously optimistic about his recovery. We will update the membership when appropriate

I would ask all members to keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
