Arthur Alan White ~ December 21, 1932 – June 25, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of retired District Chief Arthur White, brother of retired Toronto Fire Department Bill White, father of retired Captain Peter White, father-in-law of retired Captain David Stephenson, grandfather of active member Acting Captain Brian White (S331), and grandfather-in-law of active member Acting Captain Brandon Marks (L331). Arthur began his career on October 16, 1955, with the Forest Hill Fire Department and served the citizens of Toronto for 37 years until he retired at the rank of District Chief with the Toronto Fire Department on November 30, 1992. As we share his obituary below, our hearts are with his family, friends, and those who knew him.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear Father, Art White, on June 25, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Richmond Hill on December 21, 1932, Art shared an active household and multi-sport life with his brother William (Bill TFS) and his sisters Isabel and Jeannette. Art developed into a gifted athlete, excelling at multiple sports, with hockey skill as his greatest gift. Time spent at arenas would pay dividends as he would meet and fall in love with a beautiful young figure skater named Eleanor Desmond (White). They settled into marriage as Art started his firefighting career with the former Forest Hill Fire Department on October 16, 1955.
Our loving mother predeceased Dad in February 2025.
Proud and loving father to Tammie Stephenson (David TFS), Debbie White-Derry, and Peter White TFS (Brenda).
Proud and loving Grandfather to Mathew (Megan), Sarah (Jeremy), Emily (Chris), Ashley (Brandon TFS), and Brian TFS (Cassandra).
Proud and loving Great Grandfather to Riley, Rayne, Tyler, Reeve, Jack, Sloan, Adelaide, Kayd, and Rose.
Thirty-seven years of dedicated service to the citizens of Toronto, culminating in his retirement at the rank of District Chief on November 30, 1992.
The Patriarch to three generations of Toronto Firefighters and one Police Officer.
A “celebration of life” will be held in the near future, with details to follow.
